History
The Katharine Gibbs School in Providence is the flagship school of the seven schools located throughout New England and the Mid Atlantic. The story of Katharine Gibbs' quest to establish and pefect career education is remarkable.

Jewelers and goldsmiths had made Providence their base of operation since colonial times. By the turn of the 20th century, manufacturers were shipping their products to locations throughout the world. It was than that Katharine Ryan Gibbs began a radical experiment.

In 1911 - recently widowed and convinced that women could make an important contribution to the workforce - she opened a two-room school in downtown Providence and began her experiment with one student and a dream.

Since that day, other Katharine Gibbs Schools have followed in locations across the eastern seaboard, each committed to career education. While the schools were initially founded to train secretaries, they now offer courses ranging from information technology to visual communications and web design. Some schools offer courses that lead to associate degrees, others to undergraduate degrees.

Today, the Katharine Gibbs School,  Providence, remains  a proud reminder that dreams can come true.
