History
1863 – Katharine Ryan (Gibbs) born in Galena, Illinois. Attends private school conducted by two well-educated New England spinsters.
1909 – Katharine Gibbs widowed at the age of 46 when husband, William, dies. Left to support two young sons and an unmarried sister, Mary Ryan.
1911 – Katharine Gibbs opens first school in Providence with a $1,000 loan from friends.
1917 – Boston School opens during World War I.
1918 – New York School opens at 101 Park Avenue (Park Avenue and 40th Street.)
1935 – New York School moves to larger quarters at 230 Park Avenue.
1950 – Gibbs opens Montclair school in New Jersey.
1961 – Gibbs School celebrates 50th Anniversary.
1963 – New York School moves to Pan Am Building.
1971 – Gibbs opens second New York school on Long Island.
1973 – Connecticut school opens in Norwalk.
1984 – Gibbs opens Piscataway school in New Jersey.
1996 – First Gibbs College in Norwalk.
1996 – Gibbs School celebrates 85th Anniversary.
1997 – Gibbs Schools purchased by Career Education Corporation.

The Katharine Gibbs Schools have been in continuous operation for 90 years, preparing students for rewarding professional careers.

Katharine Gibbs opened her first business school in Providence, Rhode Island. Her commitment to excellence in business education won immediate recognition and her schools grew to be strong centers of education.

Today, there are nine Katharine Gibbs Schools in operation throughout the northeastern United States.

Mission Statement

The the school be dedicated to the development of the individual, emphasizing problem solving in its curriculum to better prepare students to become professionals in the workplace. Students are encouraged to develop professional excellence, integrity, and confidence in an atmosphere that fosters mutual respect. Before Graduation
Each student is assigned to a personal Career Representative. This is a partnership with one goal in mind: for the student to develop effective resumés and interviewing techniques, with a focus on helping the student make the transition from the educational environment to the business world. Students and employers alike have come to depend on this practical approach, one that emphasizes professionalism and a curriculum to meet   the needs of today’s businesses. During the year, on-site Employer Seminars are held to bring the student up-to-date on what is happening in the workplace.

After Graduation
Gibbs graduates continue to share in the Gibbs reputation, and benefit from the doors that this will open. Job placement services are offered to all graduates throughout their entire working career. Graduates have ongoing access to the best opportunities in the Connecticut and Westchester County areas. Companies trust Gibbs to provide reliable and well-trained employees. The new Alumni Network enables all graduates to keep up-to-date with the latest in the job market.

Faculty and Staff
The faculty and staff of Gibbs College, Norwalk, aim to make students successful by offering high quality business education and placement services. At Gibbs College education comes first. Teaching, rather than research, grant writing, or intercollegiate sports, is the priority of both the faculty and the administration. All efforts are directed toward helping students to reach their goals.

Location
Students who attend Gibbs College have the opportunity to choose employment from a variety of major corporations and companies in Fairfield County. The city of Stamford, located only 10 miles from the college, is the second largest center for corporate headquarters in the United States.
